When most people mention Atlanta, we are talking affectionately talking about “Metro Atlanta”
Metro Atlanta includes the Midtown Atlanta area PLUS the surrounding Suburbs.
Today I did an extensive drive around Hampton GA.

Where is Hampton GA?
To get to this Hampton GA you have to go about 20 minutes South of Midtown Metro Atlanta.
The ride down there is not as simple or close as most places I drive around.
Hampton GA is in Henry County.
The I-285 (The circular interstate that surrounds Atlanta) is 35 Minutes away.
Hampton sits in between the cities of Fayetteville and McDonough.
To get here, you can drive the I-75 or I-675 South from Midtown or the US-41 South.
If you make it into Griffin GA, you’ve traveled too far South.

Is Hampton GA nice?
Yes, Hampton GA is a small but lovely city.
Hampton is a very wooded city with straightforward access to Downtown Atlanta and the Airport.
This is the epitome of down-home southern living while still being able to access big-city traits.
Hampton GA is experiencing an emergence with new house construction and brand-new communities.
What is there to do in Hampton?
If you enjoy Racecar driving, this is the epicenter.
- The Atlanta Motor Speedway
- The NASCAR racing center is located here
- Atlanta Speedway Airport
- Legends Premiere Campground @ Atlanta
- Lots of other National Parks
How much does it cost to live in Hampton GA?
If you are finished with the rat race and just want to settle down, this city is cheap and convenient.
The average home price is in the low $300,000
The Median income was $26,344 in 2022
The median income of the rest of Atlanta was $69,000 that same year
With home prices this low, you will not need an extraordinary income.
Having a car, however, is 100% mandatory.
New houses are being built all around Hampton
What are the Demographics of Hampton GA
20% of the residents of Hampton GA are black.
Whites make up 60% while Hispanics are 11%
What is the Crime Rate in City?
A lot of people don’t realize this, but the crime rate of the entire country is lower than it has been in decades.
And it’s on a steady decline.
The availability of Camera Phones would have you swearing things are getting worse.
Not to mention, News channels that stay relevant by covering bad news, sensationalize crime for higher ratings.
But the truth is, crime is down, and in Hampton, it’s even 29% lower than in the rest of Georgia.
You will be looking at 1,900 crimes for every 100 thousand residents.
In other words, you are very safe in this city unless you are the cause of turmoil.
How are the Schools in City

The Elementary Schools include:

- Hampton,
- Dutchtown,
- Mount Carmel, and
- Rocky Creek which gets an 8 out of 10 by greatschools.org
Unfortunately, these schools don’t have a great reputation according to the site.
How far is Hampton GA from the Atlanta Airport?
Metro Atlanta can sometimes be the fastest city I’ve ever traveled around.
You can literally get from the Northern Suburbs to the Southern suburbs in less than an hour.
I’ve been able to leave home, make it to the airport, check in, and catch my flight to the Caribbean in about 2 hours
but then there’s Atlanta Rush Hour…
Rush hour usually lasts from maybe 5:30 am to 9 am in the mornings and 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the evenings with Fridays being the worst.
The Answer to the question of how long it will take to get to the airport can be VERY different at different times of the day.
The honest answer is 3 hours during rush hour and 35 minutes at other times.
6 hours if you are brave enough to try to get there on a Friday at 6 pm.
The homes prices are great because of the distance from Atlanta
Conclusion:
Is this city a good place to live?
The peaceful people, up-and-coming housing, and convenient location make Hampton GA a great place to live.
However, if you are a mover and shaker who doesn’t mind a noisy city with lots of traffic, this place may be a little Country for you.
The low household income of this city may scare many away, but if you travel and make decent money for work, this city is a steal.
