Top 8 most Dangerous Caribbean Islands | Passport Kings Travel

Comments

In all of my years promoting travel to all of the Caribbean Islands, there is one phrase that I hear most from people who don’t travel often.

They believe that every island is 1 of the most Dangerous Caribbean Islands and they say things like,

“They may kidnap you out there!”

from my experience, it doesn’t matter if you are in Puerto Rico, a french territory, or a British overseas territory.

The experience you have will usually depend on your behavior.

Getting the best seat cushion that makes every seat on the plane feel like you’re in first class, will at least have you in a good mood when you arrive.

Dangerous Caribbean Islands
Ziplining upside down

First of all, the countries I’ve visited all had laws, and the residents are very afraid to get jammed up in the penile system of each country.

2ndly a lot of people who travel may have what they think are valuables that a poorer country’s resident would be willing to die for.

Not only would they want to keep a great reputation on the world stage but they also prefer showing Europe how this British overseas territory can keep crime lower than in England, Scotland, and Wales.

Chances are, they have already seen what you have and owned one of their own before. They are not so impressed that they would risk their freedom to take yours.

And 3rd, these countries are very hard on the criminal-minded residents that would ruin their country’s tourism industry.

In the Caribbean, tourism is a Major source of income, and ruining their safety reputation for a few local thugs is out of the question.

These countries act very swiftly and harshly toward their citizens who are willing to break the law against tourists.

The government does NOT want to be known as 1 of the most Dangerous Caribbean Islands for tourists to visit.

Of course, you should still keep your guard up and your wits about you when out of the country.

But, with that being said, there are still some very serious neighborhoods in some Caribbean islands that you’re just asking to be jacked up if you’re roaming around looking like a victim.

Today on Passport Kings, I’m going to give you the list of the top 8 most dangerous Caribbean islands and cities that you want to absolutely avoid.

This list is useful if you’re a nervous wreck, will stand out like a sore thumb, and plan on getting back home in 1 piece.

But please take this list with the knowledge that many people travel to these Islands every year and are fine!

Also remember that if you are naive and walking through the world with no wherewithal, you may get hemmed up no matter which country, island, or state you find yourself in.

8. Laventille, Trinidad, and Tobago

In recent videos, I’ve been talking a lot about the Trinidad Tobago women, but you know what comes with those beautiful faces and bodies?

Hard times Daddy!

And there are no more challenging times than for people who grew up in Laventille.

They were born into nothing and some of this population are adamant about getting money and screwing over whoever stand in the way between them and their loot.

It seems that some of Trinidad Tobago are adamant about not losing their place as 1 of the most Dangerous Caribbean Islands.

What they feel are the ops are getting smoked at high rates on this beautiful tiny island of Trinidad Tobago.

The violence is laser-focused right outside of the capital city in the Port of Spain in Laventille.

Like America, most of it is Gang and Drug Related. But also like in America, some tourists have been caught in the crossfire.

In other words, find yourself a nice resort, meet your company, then go back into the room, if you’re not on an excursion.

Though Tobago appears to be much safer than Trinidad, there is an increased risk of theft and armed assaults on both islands during holiday periods such as Christmas and Carnival.

Trinidad Tobago may have some of the most beautiful women but the obstacles that keep these from being called the safest Caribbean islands keeps many tourists away.

7. Santo Domingo, DR

I have a video review from when I was in Boca Chica Santo Domingo.

We were not the victims of any crimes but you will quickly tell that any false moves on your part could land you in a world of hurt.

For the most part, people who live there are going about their day.

They’re making money to feed their families but the scammers and professional women are quick to take advantage of a person who lets his guards all the way down.

The majority of these people are not rich. As we know in America, if you take away a person’s resources, they will become desperate.

I will say that most people have found their niches and are living normal lives, but the Dominican Republic generally has a high crime rate.

The action is mostly in the communities and areas travelers hardly ever visit.

Stay out of Arroyo Hondo, Naco, Gazcue, Cristo Rey and Villa Agricola.

66% of the population use, or are selling drugs. Using drugs is something you do to yourself and the people who sell those drugs are usually pretty decent dudes just trying to make a buck.
Unfortunately and as we all know, robbery and murder usually accompany drug dealing because people want to own the territories they sell in.

There is a lot to do and see in Santo Domingo and if you stay where the tourists are, chances are, you will never feel the effects of a city with a high crime rate.

6. Port Au Prince Haiti

As I’ve discussed in my video about why Dominican Republic Haiti are so different,

Haiti has been through a lot in its history.

They are going through a lot even up til this day.

Resources are scarce because larger countries and international corporations are extorting this country.

A lot of the people in Port Au Prince are desperate to be able to live a normal life.

They are normally not interested in adding to the murder rate of their home, especially bothering tourists.

Many in the government make it no better by doing the bidding of corrupt outside influencers. Most Haitians you will meet in Port Au Prince will be welcoming and kind.

But there are a lot of them who are fed up and are willing to do anything to feel like they’ve done their best, with what they have, to take care of their families.

Armed gangs have been growing since 2021 and some have resorted to kidnapping people for ransom. However, these gangs are organized and see the bigger picture.

Tourists with a couple of thousand dollars to spend are usually not their targets.

If you want to go to Haiti, most people will suggest going by cruise so you can visit the little island of Labadee.

You can say you’ve been to Haiti and mark it off your bucket list.

5. Kingston, Jamaica

Jamaica is 1 of the most well-known Caribbean tourist locations. You would not think it would make it to the list of the top 8 most dangerous islands in the Caribbean, but it has.

I’ve made 3 videos from there myself.

For the most part, Jamaicans are down-to-earth and friendly people.

They work very hard to make a decent legal living and treat the people who visit Jamaica with love dignity and respect.

The majority of places that most tourists visit are made pretty secure by Jamaica’s government.

Tourism brings a large amount of revenue to the country’s economy.

The resources used to protect the country’s cash cows like Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril, and Foulmouth are in contrast to the resources they use for less popular cities like Kingston.

Although many people tour Bob Marley’s house, the Botanical Gardens, and Zoo every year, you would be smart to watch your back and belongings when the sun goes down and tour times are finished.

You could be robbed, hurt, or even killed if you run into the wrong group of Jamaicans hell-bent on taking what you have.

However, Many of my clients who have family in Jamaica had extremely good times in Kingston. They will argue me down and say that Kingston should definitely not be included as 1 of the Dangerous Caribbean Islands

Chances are, you will have a worry-free time out there as well!

But if you want to sit around and get high off weed, super drunk off of Jamaican Rum, and go roaming the streets at night, you will get got.

Street smarts are a valuable tool to have while in Kingston Jamaica.

If you’re not from “the hood” of your hometown, you will not know the best moves to take when a situation is getting suspicious.

I suggest you stay in the more famous tourist areas of Jamaica.

You will have the time of your life.

4. Basseterre, St. Kitts

Although the crime stats have been on a steady decline, St. Kitts, especially around Basseterre is 1 of those dangerous Caribbean islands to plan a vacation.

The stats for 2020 was 18.80, over a 17% decline from 2019.

According to gov.uk most visits are trouble-free.

However, unfortunately, the few who have been attacked found themselves in some serious business

If you ask them, this should be on the list of dangerous Caribbean Islands as number 1.

Those few were victims of Murder, Armed Robbery, and Sexual assault.

Like most islands, there is absolutely no reason to floss with wads of money or jewelry.

You should always travel in a group. And if something or someone looks unsafe, it is not worth it to risk it.

Your hotel safe should be your best friend.

If pedestrians try flagging you down, Ignore them.

They are most likely trying to carjack you.

Like all islands be safe.

3. Managua, Nicaragua

The Murder rate in Nicaragua is 13.

You won’t have to worry about getting clapped because an aggressive flesh-eating disease has ravaged many archaeologists who were roaming the wilderness.

Nicaragua is also considered one of the most dangerous Caribbean Islands.

They are now facing serious hunger problems which the government is making its main priority to tackle in 2022.

In 2014 they overcame a severe drought and some of those effects are still being felt to this day.

If you want to still try your luck on these islands, stay in a resort that is well-guarded.

This way, when the national hurricane center warns of flooding, being indoors will make you feel like you are on 1 of the safest Caribbean islands.

2. Honduras, Managua

Honduras is a country that is plagued by crime.

This has been a problem for many years, and it shows no signs of letting up.

This crime wave has had a negative impact on the economy, as it has deterred tourists from visiting.

Not only that, but some archeologists have also complained of abdominal pain vomiting, and other ailments while digging up artifacts.

This is a shame, as Honduras has much to offer visitors.

It is a beautiful country with friendly people.

However, the high level of crime makes it too dangerous for most travelers to consider.

It’s truly a staple regarding the most dangerous Caribbean islands to visit.

If not for the random acts of violence against tourists, Honduras could be a thriving tourist destination.

There are so many unique things to see for travelers who enjoy epic views of mountainsides, wildlife, and beautiful beaches.

Honduras offers all and more of everything you would expect out of a tropical paradise.

1. Venezuela takes number 1 in Dangerous Caribbean Islands

Since the early 2000s, Venezuela has been one of the most dangerous countries in the world.

So of course it wins the title of the most dangerous island in the Caribbean.

The government has been unable to control the spiraling crime rate, and armed groups operate with impunity. Murders, kidnappings, and robberies are common, and tourists are often targets.

The situation has only gotten worse in recent years. In 2013, Venezuela had the highest murder rate in the world, with 79 per 100,000 people killed.

That same year, there were over 16,000 reported kidnappings. And although the exact number is difficult to determine, it is estimated that nearly one million Venezuelans have been victims of violent crime.

The Venezuelan government has done little to address the problem. One resident said, “It’s almost like they pride themselves on being one of the most Dangerous Caribbean Islands!”

In fact, many believe that government corruption is one of the root causes of crime in Venezuela.

The police are corrupt and ineffective, and the justice system is slow and inefficient.

Some residents have gone as far as to say the government would be better off issuing the death penalty sharia law to keep the citizens safe.

The only problem with the death penalty sharia law doctrine would be the higher-ups would get away with their corruption while the petty thieves would suffer the full brunt.

Venezuela can also be called 1 of the world’s most dangerous islands!
