Visiting San Juan can be a history lesson, a beach getaway or a little of both. Old San Juan, a walled center dating to Puerto Rico’s days as a Spanish colony, is a square mile of restored buildings, narrow streets, plazas, former forts and an oceanfront esplanade. The beaches are in the resort area of Isla Verde and in the more urban Condado. Visual and performing arts and a bustling marketplace dominate the Santurce quarter. Casinos, hip restaurants and clubs are scattered throughout the city.
San Juan has more visitors a year than any other place in the Caribbean. Puerto Rico’s largest city has over 1 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area. San Juan has three tourist areas; Old San Juan, Condado and Isla Verde.
Old San Juan
The second oldest city in the new world is one of Puerto Rico’s most popular attractions. The Old City has some of the oldest European Architecture in the Americas. Among the many attractions you can find El Morro A fortress built in the 16th Century to protect San Juan. It is the largest and most elaborate of its kind in the Caribbean. The area also hosts dozens of cafes, bars & nightclubs.
Once the place to be in San Juan, Condado still holds its own as a great place to stay. The strip hosts excellent dining and the only 24 hour casino in San Juan.
This tourist strip hosts the best beach in San Juan and the best hotels. With great dining, nightlife & beautiful accommodations.
