Are you thinking about Traveling alone to the outer reaches of the globe?
I know from experience that It’s going to be a blast.
However here are the 3 things you should watch out for.
Here are the Disadvantages.
1. No Discounts
Many things like Hotels, Cabs, Restaurants…they’re quick to give discounts to groups of 2 or more people
When you’re alone, the discounts never apply to you.
I guess this is the perfect time for you to meet a stranger but, you don’t always want to do that.
Sometimes you just want to sit there quietly – eat – and take in the sights and sounds of a beautiful new city
You want to do that without making conversation, well, without making AWKWARD conversation with a person you really don’t know.
Unfortunately, that 2-for-1 sale on the seafood dinner bash won’t apply to you when you are traveling alone!
Neither will the amusement park rides, trains, haircuts, shuttle buses, or anything else give you a price break.
More importantly, Many Hotels and Cruises give an incredible discount for what they call “Double Occupancy.”
The price that you see for accommodations on a commercial is only available to you if you are being accompanied by another person.
If you’re a solo traveler, you have to pay the same as two people regardless if you’re using one or two beds in a hotel room.
This means that even if you’re not sharing space with anyone else, you will still be paying for two!
Such pricing schemes make it difficult for single travelers to afford vacations without breaking the bank.
And sometimes this can be discouraging because the prices just don’t add up financially.
Traveling alone is more expensive by default.
It’s only natural that we want to travel without having to pay exorbitant amounts of money.
Especially when we aren’t getting any tangible benefits from being charged double occupancy prices.
2. No one to share your experience with
Streaming videos and sharing pics on social media can compensate a little bit for not having anyone else to experience adventures with.
But, some things aren’t fully experienced when traveling alone.
They can only be truly enjoyed when you are with a partner or 2.
Sharing the anxiety about going into something unfamiliar is preferred over being alone.
Having a good laugh with another person feels like the basics of what being a human is all about.
We are naturally social creatures.
When you and a friend or a lover find either a little hole in the wall together or a big hole in the ground to scale down together you form a new kind of bonded connection with that person.
Sharing memories or inside jokes that were created while 2 or more of you were traveling outside of your comfort zones together is worth more than gold, man!
It’s worth more than money could buy.
A hug, high 5, an embrace, or even a kiss can easily make a random moment in time into THE moment that you will reminisce about for the rest of your life.
Showing a loved one on Twitter a picture like that pales in comparison man.
And finally, here’s reason 3!
3. Someone to “CHECK” others with
I talk tough, but in reality, I’m just 1 human and there is only so much that I can do to protect myself when I’m by myself
An extra set of eyes can keep track of belongings or see who has been following us around for too long.
That extra security is worth its weight in Platinum!
On The Passport Kings Travel YouTube channel, I always try to get you to calm your irrational fears down.
But, at the same time, I promote being smart about your safety and life.
Your safety is YOUR responsibility wherever you go.
However, having a POTNA takes away almost half of the burden.
They will be an extra set of eyes, ears, and an extra cell phone to call for help.
People lose their phones all the time and it’s comforting to know that your co-d has theirs
Four fists are better than two
Having another set of fists if needed can also deter people from starting a fight with you.
If some young punks have been suspicious looking at your camera and other valuables for way too long, they will think twice about trying to swipe it.
Chances are, thieves won’t even try it if they realize you aren’t traveling alone.
They will know that a heist will be more trouble than what it’s worth.
I’m saying all of that to say… A good friend can protect you!
Traveling alone
Alright, if you have anything to add to this topic or anything about traveling in general leave a comment below.
I usually answer them personally.
Let’s keep this conversation going!
Conclusion
Traveling alone can be an amazing experience.
It is a great opportunity to explore a new place, meet new people, and challenge yourself in ways you may not have expected.
It is a great way to take some time for yourself and make memories that will last a lifetime.
The sense of independence that comes with being on your own is invaluable.
Whether it’s just for a weekend or several months, traveling alone has something to offer everyone.
Losers have either decided to not try or to stop trying new things.
Winners will
- try,
- fail,
- learn,
- practice
- and then try again until they win
They will put that cycle on repeat until they ultimately win at anything
losers don’t do that!
Don’t be a loser Be a King.
